Kanyakumari Blog
We visited Kanyakumari last month and it was an awesome experience to visit the beaches and the Vivekananda rocks.
Kanyakumari gives the fantastic meeting of the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea, and the Indian Ocean meeting together at a point. But, this is not a miracle, the miracle lies in the beauty that the water of three seas does not mix, you can clearly describe between the turquoise blue, deep blue, and sea green waters of the three seas. To enjoy the best view of sunset and sunrise, you can visit the Triveni Sangam point and the famous View tower. Kanyakumari is also the only place in India where you can observe the sunrise and sunset at the same beach. The town is not only popular for its unique phenomenon but also its temples and the Vivekananda Rock Memorial among other iconic monuments.
Kanyakumari sightseeing isn’t complete without taking a tour of the famous places of historical, religious, and natural amazements.
Vivekananda Rock Memorial, as the name suggests, Vivekananda Rock Memorial was built to commemorate the great religious reformer Swami Vivekananda. Opened to the public in 1970, the rock memorial is a major tourist attraction in Kanyakumari. The rock memorial comprises two main structures-the Vivekananda Mandapam and the Shripada Mandapam.

Standing tall at 133 feet, the statue of Thiruvalluvar was opened to the public in 2000. The statue stands on a three-tier pedestal, known as the Atharapeedam which is further surrounded by a 38 feet Alankara Peedam. 10 elephants made of the stone mantle the Alankara Edema symbolizing the ten directions – eight for the earth, one for the sky, and another for hell.
Vattakotai Fort, One of the last coastal forts constructed by the rulers of the Travancore Kingdom, it dates back to the 18th century. Constructed under the supervision of an ex-Dutch naval officer, today the fort is protected under the archaeological department of India. Built of solid stone, the fort comprises watch towers, weapon rooms, and restrooms. It goes without saying that the architectural grandeur of the fort makes for a must-visit to this place.
Kanyakumari Beach, the namesake beach of the town and the most popular one, this beach overlooks the meeting point of the seas and oceans. The colors of the three water bodies are clearly defined in turquoise blue, deep blue, and sea green, which change with the season or the day’s weather.
Padmanabhapuram Palace is one of the must-visit historical places in Tamilnadu. This palace which was built in 1601 AD by Iravi Varma Kulasekhara Perumal is renowned as one of the marvels of the Travancore era.
